 These are Animation episodes for the computer game "You Are EMPTY", 
which was published in 2006 by "C1". It was produced by two companies:
 "MendalArtPlane" and "Digital Spray". It was my first experiment
with actors, video and photo.

Q. Anatoly Lavrenishin created the wonderful and unique cutscenes,
which I think impressed everyone who saw them.
How did he become involved? What do you think of his contribution?

Anatoly is one of the most famous young Ukrainian animators.
His films win awards on animation festivals in Ukraine, Poland, France, Thailand and other countries.
And for sure he made great work for us.

When You Are EMPTY was in production Anatoly was involved in some projects that were very close to game industry.
And we decided to invite him to our office and propose to participate in You Are EMPTY creation.

with a gray, industrialized look.
This was quite an artistic approach to the story,
but some of the more abstract cut-scenes will leave you scratching your head,
wondering what the hell they're trying to convey.
To be perfectly honest, I wasn't expecting a whole lot out of this game,
but these cut-scenes really jumped out at me with their style and darkness.
It’s unfortunate, however, that the rest of the game
doesn’t apply the same artistic vision to the rest of the game as they did in the cut-scene….

with a shaky animation style and eccentric directing.
As I mentioned, they tell the story but keep it mysterious up to the end.
There’s something to be said about putting your home country experience into your art,

….One another note, one rather hidden gem that I don’t want to forget to mention is the cut scenes.
I have been gaming for quite some time, on a variety of platforms,
but few cut scenes have impressed me as much as some of those found in YAE.
They are not rendered using the game’s engine; instead, they are almost
like a pastiche of high contrast sketches mixed with live action and archived footage.
The end result is actually quite impressive, because it allows for some interesting abstractions
that are linked to some of the narrative’s dominant themes.
They don’t tell a linear narrative as much as they set a discordant tone that often adds to the game’s atmosphere.
It’s like watching a series of short films that draw on a variety of media to deliver their content.
The team deserves kudos for style and execution in this department…..

You Are Empty's story is stylishly told through black-and-white video vignettes that show
life behind the Iron Curtain in a series of simulated, scattered flashbacks.
They consist of a mix of animation and live actors who appear to be colored in by pencil and ink,
spliced between grainy film footage that might have been borrowed from the History Channel.
The speechless faces move through scenes filled with eerie sound effects and music;
the snippets of events leave clues to build the bigger picture.
Without saying a word, they deliver an interesting twist to history that becomes clear at the very end.
It's great stuff, but not everyone may appreciate the admittedly vague method used to deliver the story.

Digital Media Meeting (DRIMN)

France, June, 25 rd – July, 15rd 2007

The French Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs
is organising the Second International Meeting for
Digital Media, to be issued from the 25th of June to the
13rd of July 2007.
This event will give 32 students the opportunity to
discover and to meet artists, researchers and technicians
working in different areas of digital image making,
whether linear or interactive, and to attend a series of
conferences in France’s best schools, universities and
training centres.

An Awesome tale

Весною 2007році на замовлення  компанія INTERFILM

було створено 4 хвилини анімації для повнометражного фільму "Прикольна казка".

У співпраці з режисером фільму Романом Ширманом та продюсером Олена Футісовою було розроблене

визуальне рішення та сценарій.

Потім на протязі 3 місяців занімовано 10 епізодів,які доповнювали сюжет фільма.

Аніматори- Евген Альохін та Оксана Замрій.  

 Я виступав у якості художника, режисера та аніматора теж.
